Recently diagnosed with cancer, he faced his illness with great dignity and bravery.
Dave was a devoted husband to Joy (Campbell) for 57 years and a very loving and proud father to his son David and father-in law to Karyn.
Born in Halifax, in October 1941, Dave was the first born of six children to parents Richard Laurie & Elsie (Sullivan) Power.
As their big brother, he will be dearly missed by his siblings and their spouses:
Bob (Sharon) Power, Mike (Dianne) Power, Janie (Tim) Michalko, Rick (Tena) Power, Tony (Anita Jung) Power and also by his brother-in-law and wife
Dan and DiAnne Campbell
He will be fondly remembered by many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends old and new, especially those at Tiara Gardens
Dave was predeceased by his parents, his in-laws Daniel and Dorothy Campbell, his sister-in-law Susan Campbell and most recently his nephew Michael Campbell.
Dave spent his entire working career in the grocery business. He started at 17 years of age as a “buggy boy” and soon moved inside to stocking shelves at Dominon Stores. He then moved on to Bolands, where he worked for 35 years, first as a buyer and then working within the IT department. He retired in 1999.
He loved any sports he could watch on TV, and in his younger years bowled many a good game.
Dave took great pride in his cars and kept them spotless, and they always looked like they just rolled off the showroom floor. Other interests included playing bridge, travelling with Joy and other family members, and summertime at the cottage in Bayswater.
When Dave & Joy moved into their current home, 14 years ago, he became very involved in their condo Board of Directors and was a main fixture around the building. Always lending a helping hand to his neighbours. He made many new friends, there, who we know will miss his friendship, help and insight.
Many who knew Dave will miss his great hugs, his belly laughs and his teasing sense of humour.
Dave regularly went for morning breakfast at Jim’s Family Restaurant. We know the team there, who treated him so well, will miss his morning smiles. He so appreciated all the attention he received when he and his brothers went to celebrate his birthday there, last month.
Not a real Handyman, Dad did a great job of “supervising” renovations at David and Karyn’s homes. He so enjoyed the progress reports and photos of their latest project. We are saddened he will not see the final results but are blessed he was able to visit the jobsite several times this summer. We know he would say that the final outcome is, in his words, “Awesome”!
A family dinner out to celebrate special occasions always included a great glass of red wine and was finished with a special Irish Coffee.
Cheers Dave, Dad to a life lived well!
We would like to thank the incredible team in the ER and unit 8.2 at the Halifax Infirmary. The treatment and care that Dave received during his short time with both departments was delivered with great warmth and respect. It was greatly appreciated by our family.
Visitation will be at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive Thursday November 24, 6-8pm.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Agnes Church, 6903 Mumford Road on Friday November 25th, at 10am.
If you desire, donations may be made in Dave’s Memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
To respect the health of all in attendance we request the wearing of masks.
