Born in Halifax, NS on July 1, 1951 to John and Mary (Bell) Merritt, Dan was a kind old soul with a heart of gold. He was interested in restoring antique cars, including his 1951 Buick Special, and woodwork. He loved history and enjoyed debate, especially with his son. Dan received a degree in Finance from St. Mary's University. He worked most of his career as a Longshoreman for Union Local 269, until his retirement in 2016.
He will be dearly missed by his children Christopher (Audrey), Allison (Aaron), Amanda (Jeffery), and their mother, Heather Merritt. His greatest pride was his grandchildren, Jasmine, Westin, Grady, Josie, Jackson, Finley, and Theo. He is survived by siblings John (Wendy), Julie (Wayne) and Robert (Anne), as well as his many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will take place September 8 at JA Snow Funeral Home at 2pm with reception to follow. Burial will be private with family.
We would like to thank Dr. Lee, Dr. Colp, Kim (Continuing Care), Alicia (VON), and QE2 (8.2) staff for care in his final days. To honour our father, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Easter Seals.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.JASnowFuneralHome.com for the MERRITT family.
