Cheryl Lois Ramey (Myers) passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 13th with her husband by her side. After a brave 15-year battle with cancer (colon and ovarian), her body finally succumbed to this horrible disease.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years (Richard), son Jason (Theresa) and granddaughters Mayelle and Amelia, son Matthew (Agata) and granddaughters Julia and Elizabeth, sister Hazel Pippy, and numerous cherished nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Alvin and Elva (Acorn) Myers, sister Alma Jenkins, sister Velma Jones, brother Colin Myers, and infant brother Wavel Myers.
Cheryl was loving, loyal, tough, and beautiful. During a blustery snowstorm in December 1944, she was born in Mount Herbert, PEI. After grade school, she graduated from Prince of Wales College with a diploma in Office Administration. Her career included work in insurance, banking, hospitality, and retail.
She met her loving husband Richard at the Royal Bank in Charlottetown in 1967. They wed on May 17, 1969. In Dartmouth, they started their family in 1976 (Jason) and 1978 (Matthew) to whom she dedicated many years of loving, encouraging, listening, teaching, and instilling high values and ethics and compassion. The family also resided in San Francisco, Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver. In each city Cheryl took the difficult lead role in establishing a church home, a doctor, a dentist, and schools. She had a special flair for décor, making each house our home.
Raised in a family of faith, she was a dedicated Christian which she demonstrated by her involvement in many Church activities and by practising Christian values.
Cheryl’s hobbies included volunteering, reading, cheering on her sons in sports and life, supporting the Toronto Blue Jays, spoiling her dogs, socializing, playing card games, and gardening. She had kept over 40 house plants at one time. Her favourite was a fern that was originally in her family home which she has kept alive for more than 50 years.
Cheryl and Richard have spent their golden years in Halifax and their winter home near Clearwater, Florida. They also vacationed in the UK, Caribbean, and various US destinations. But Cheryl’s favourite trips were the many visits to family in Ottawa (Jason) and Vancouver (Matthew) where she provided unconditional love to her sons, her daughters-in-law, and 4 beautiful granddaughters.
Cheryl and family are grateful for the caring and compassion provided by the various health care teams over the years. We specifically acknowledge Monica from Palliative Care going the extra mile on many occasions. Also, two great Christian friends in our building, Bev and Elaine, were invaluable in praying, singing, and reading to Cheryl while Richard was able to enjoy a respite.
Donations may be made to ovarian or colon cancer research, Queen Elizabeth II Hospital (Halifax), or Birch Cove Baptist Church.
