On December27, 2019 after 100 Christmases, Kay passed away at Northwood Centre in Halifax. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late John Charles Mullane and Lena (Hanlon) and wife of the late Joseph Hill of Halifax.
Kay graduated from Halifax Ladies College where she studied under renowned Artist and Fine Arts Educator Edith Smith. She went on to study at the Nova Scotia College of Art (NSCAD). Kay assisted her husband Joe Hill in his accounting practice until his passing in the 1970’s.
She enjoyed caring for her cats and was an avid gardener. After completing her art program at the college of art, Kay continued to paint when she had the opportunity. She was a fiercely independent woman who with help from her niece Jackie, grandniece Michelle, neighbor Cathy Vincer, was able to live at home with relative independence into her 99th year.
Kay is survived by nieces and nephews Jackie Yates (Jamie), Joan Carroll, Maureen Dean (Alec), Cathy Crosby, Jon Mullane and several great nieces and great nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Kay was predeceased by her brother John and his wife Evelyn, sisters Aileen Robichaud and husband Raymond, and Veronica (Bonnie) Gillis and husband John. Kay was also predeceased by her niece Betty Waller and her husband Don. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Many thanks to the staff at Northwood Centre (4th floor) and at the Victoria General Hospital (4B) as well as Continuing Care professionals for their compassion and kindness.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday January 3rd at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, from 1-2 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life service in the Chapel at 2pm. Interment will be at a later date.
