Carolyn Jane Kavanagh

Carolyn Jane (Wright) Kavanagh died Wednesday, Jan. 24 from complications after a fall at home. She was born in Middleton, NS on March 26, 1936 to D.B. (Dennis) Wright and Harriet Nichols Wright. She graduated from Middleton High School and attended Acadia University before entering the V.G. School of Nursing. She graduated with her R.N. in September 1957 and married J.W. (Jerry) Kavanagh that same month. They lived in Dartmouth and Halifax until his death in 1980. He was the director of civil litigation in the Attorney General’s Office for the Government of Nova Scotia.

Carolyn worked as a nurse at Mother Berchman’s Infirmary, Mount Saint Vincent Motherhouse, and later at the V.G. Hospital (oncology). After retiring, she worked in the simulated patient program at the Dalhousie School of Medicine.

She was active in the Girl Guide Movement for many years, first as a Brownie leader and later as a trainer of adult volunteers.

She enjoyed horseback riding, knitting, crosswords, current events, lunches with friends and any chance to socialize with her classmates from the V.G. Class of ‘57, or her colleagues from Girl Guides. She will be missed by her many dear friends, including those in her apartment building, Forrest Green.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Jerry and her son, John Dennis McFarlane Kavanagh.

She is survived by her daughter, Judith Kavanagh, daughter-in-law Mary McFarlane, grandson Ananda Kavanagh (Andrea) step-granddaughter Lori Ryan (Tim), and great-granddaughter Jasmine Kavanagh. She is also survived by her brothers Harry Millard Wright (Jinny), and Eric Wright, and many nephews and nieces, of whom she was very fond.
