It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Candace, 48 years old on October 22, 2019. Candace died peacefully in the arms of her loving family. She was born March 26, 1971 in Bridgewater NS. Candace was the precious daughter of Lloyd and Linda (Lewis) Melbourne of Halifax, NS, big sister to Carrie Melbourne (Justin Preece), Lower Sackville, NS and the adored ‘Aunt C’ to Maria and William Preece, who brought so much joy into her life. Candace was the special granddaughter of Hildred Lewis, Sydney, NS, and will be missed by her favourite four-legged friend, Gracie.
Candace will be greatly missed by aunts & uncles, Bernetta Melbourne, Kevin (Linda) Melbourne, Doris Melbourne, Theresa (James) Todd, Helen (Barry) Fraser, Bobby (Beth) Lewis, Jimmy (Jane) Lewis, Danny (Mona) Lewis, Kathy Lewis, Chrissy (Rob) Jack, David (Doreen) Lewis Brenda Watson, Laurie (Glenn) Finney, Doug (Margaret) Lewis, many cousins and friends.
She was predeceased by paternal grandparents, Ada and Cyril Melbourne, maternal grandfather, William H. Lewis and aunts & uncles, Carrie (Bob) Pike, Ernst Melbourne, Winston (Eleanor) Melbourne, Billy Lewis, Brian (Carol) Lewis and Mike Watson.
Candace received a Bachelor of Arts from St. Mary’s University, Bachelor of Science from Mount St. Vincent University and a diploma in IT from Information Technology Institute. She held many positions in the IT world and worked for Microsoft in Charlotte, NC, Toronto, ON and most recently the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation in Halifax, NS.
Despite her numerous health obstacles over many years, she continually defied the odds with bravery, strength and courage and fought each battle with determination until the end. Candace was fortunate to have the love and support of her large family who referred to her as their very own “Wonder Woman”. In 2018, Candace participated in the Light the Night walk for Lymphoma and in June 2019, Candace walked 10km for Team Myles in the Bluenose Marathon, supported by her team.
Candace’s life was full of love and laughter with her family and friends. She had the brightest smile and the greatest sense of humour, and had us laughing until the end. She was an avid reader, loved cooking classes and music, and traveled to many places in Canada, US and Europe.
The family would like to give special thanks to Candace’s extensive medical team at the QEII - Kate and the Heart Transplant team, the wonderful nurses and staff on 6.1, 6.4, the hematology department, Dr. Haidlaw and Dr. Gradstein, their commitment to Candace was exceptional.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2019, 1-4 pm, JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, NS. Family flowers only. In Candace’s name, donations can be made to Ronald McDonald House or a charity of your choice. Please sign your organ donor card.
