Brian Stephen Neilson

Born in Moncton, N.B. He was the son the late Margaret and Dolphy Neilson.

Brian was a graduate of Saint Mary’s University in 1982. He worked for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, the Canadian Coast Guard Maritimes Region as an Operations Supervisor for 27 years. He read the Nova Scotia and the New Brunswick obituaries daily. Brian faced many challenges in life with ease and grace, determination and optimism. He was always willing to share his advice or insight to friends, caregivers and family, when asked…he was always right.

Brian is survived by his sister, Diane Neilson of Halifax NS; brother, David Neilson of Moncton NB; and nephew, Jonathan Neilson of Shediac NB.

He was predeceased by his father in 1996, his mother in 2005, his sister, Barbara Pelletier in 2013, brother-in-law, Gary Pelletier in 2006, and his niece, Kari McLellan in 2006. Brian loved and missed his dogs Freeway and Madde who passed before he did.

Visitation will be Friday, February 3, from 1-2 pm with a memorial service to follow at 2 pm all in J A Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive Halifax. Rev. Jim Anderson officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Canada Association.

Burial will be held at a later date in Moncton NB. A sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. Lorne Marsh who was available to Brian whenever he was needed. A special thanks and appreciation to his many caregivers and nurses of the VON who in time became like family. Brian’s family would like to thank the staff at the Halifax Infirmary Emergency Department.
