Bonita (Bonnie) Louise Preston (Furlotte) passed away peacefully after a courageous struggle with ALS, surrounded by her immediate family, in the early evening on October 7, 2024. Bonnie was predeceased by her loving parents, Henrietta and Wallace Furlotte. She is survived by her partner, David Preston, and her siblings Beverly Boutilier, Will Furlotte, Barbara Durst and Barry Furlotte (Tracy). She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews, all of whom she loved specially, and who, in turn, loved her dearly. They often refer to Bonnie as their favorite “fairy godmother.” The nieces and nephews are Stephen and Angela, Wes, Brittany, Gabrielle and Alexander. Bonnie’s grand-nieces and grand-nephews are Olivia, Anna and Emily, Charlie, Cain and Casey.
Her professional career spanned over four decades, and she worked dedicatedly, intelligently and insightfully at the Canada Revenue Agency for 32 years. She retired in 2017.
Bonnie was passionate about living a vibrant life, with family as essential to that project. She truly enjoyed the creative acts of gardening, decorating, home décor, and fashion. She was known as a foody, with a special passion for sharing a great meal with family and friends, and also travelling. Most important to her was her family. She had unique and strong relationships with each of her siblings. Bonnie’s generosity to her nieces and nephews was unbounded and free. She will be greatly missed.
Bonnie and her family want to thank the Department of Neurology at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital. Similarly, they also want to thank each and every one of the Care Workers in the Palliative Care Unit at the Victoria General Hospital. Bonnie and the family also send a special thank you to the ALS Society, and the compassionate and caring staff at Closing the Gap. They would also like to extend a very special thank you to an incredible friend to the very end, Linda Beaudin.
In the famous and insightful words of Bonnie herself: never forget, “it’s a good day for a good day!”
Celebration of Life will take place on Monday, October 14th, 2 – 4 pm at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive in Halifax. In lieu of flowers, the family would request that donations be made to the ALS Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of your choice.
