Barry Angus Smith

Barry Angus Smith, age 77, of Windsor Junction, Nova Scotia, passed away suddenly Friday, January 11, 2019 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USA. The Smith Family is very grateful for the care Barry received while in the ICU Unit at the Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Barry was born on May 27, 1941 in Toronto, Ontario. He was the son of the late Kathleen Carrie Barry and Walter Angus Smith.

Barry graduated from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario in 1963 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. While his work took him many places, at the time of his retirement, he was the Manager of Research & Development for LP Building Products in East River, Nova Scotia.

Barry loved to travel and while retired, he traveled all over North America, enjoying National Parks in both Canada and the USA while visiting family and friends along the way. Barry also loved dogs and during his retirement, he became heavily involved with dog training, particularly agility. He was a member of the Canine Agility Association of Nova Scotia (CAANS) and combined his love of travel with his enjoyment in dog training by traveling to agility events throughout Canada and the USA, competing at the local, regional and national level. He and his dogs achieved many titles, including a Lifetime award with his Black Labrador Christie.

Most of all, Barry was a family man. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Christine (Lockhart), his daughters Lesley Bechtold (Robert), Lyndsey Bonnelly (Darrin) and his son Geoffrey Smith. He was the proud grandfather of six grandchildren: Tyler Bechtold, Erin and Katelyn Bonnelly, Benjamin and Jacob Holmes and Tegan Smith. He is also survived by his sister Charleen Evans (Chris), his niece Meaghan Evans and his nephew Craig Evans.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 10:30 AM at JA Snow’s Funeral Home at 339 Lacewood Drive in Halifax, Nova Scotia with a reception to follow directly afterwards.
