It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barbara (Barb) Marr at age 94, and yet great joy that she blessed our lives with her presence. Barb, or “Aunt Barbie” as we knew her, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2021 in Arborstone Enhanced Care, Halifax, N.S. with family nearby.
Born December 13, 1926 to John Edmund Rawding & Mildred Louise (Adams) Rawding of Deep Brook, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia she enjoyed horseback riding, swimming, boating and fishing. Barb left Nova Scotia as a young woman to work in Windsor, Ontario and then Detroit, Michigan as a physician’s assistant before her retirement to Florida with her husband, Thomas N. Marr. While living in Florida Barb spent many hours as a dedicated volunteer at the Bethesda Hospital. Barb also enjoyed her summers at her cottage in Amherstburg, Ontario on the Detroit River and in Digby, Nova Scotia. She eventually returned to live out the remainder of her life in Nova Scotia in 2001 to be close to her brother, other family and numerous friends.
Barb will be remembered for her zest in life, outgoing and sharing nature, love of the ocean, enjoying an occasional beer and of course telling stories. In retirement she loved to travel, garden, sing hymns in church, play music, and feed the birds. She graciously donated to and volunteered her time for many charities and organizations.
Those she has touched will forever miss Barb’s kind heart and generosity towards others. She is survived by her nieces Barbara C. Powell and Gaye L. Rawding (Michael Ashley); great nephews Jason Powell (Vanessa) and Dr. Joel Powell (Kathy); great nieces Alexandra Ashley (Trent) and Hillary Ashley; great-great nephews Spencer, Brandon, Christopher and Tyler Powell. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas Marr, brother Keith K. Rawding and sister-in-law Rose W. Rawding.
Special thanks to the staff and residents at Parkland Retirement Living (Aberdeen and Bradford Halls) for their care, kindness and companionship displayed towards Barb over the many years there and more recently the staff at Arborstone Enhanced Care.
Private Cremation has taken place and no formal services will be held. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Barb may be made to the Dalhousie University Medical Research Foundation as per her wishes. On-line condolences may be sent by visiting: www.jasnowfuneralhome.com.
