It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we, the family of Audrey Welsh(of Harrietsfield) announce her passing at the age of 87 on September 18, 2024. Audrey was born in Halifax on September 26, 1936 to the late Lawrence and Mary Flemming. Audrey will always be remembered with much love by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who adored her tremendously.
Audrey was a stay at home Mom who took her role of mother very seriously. She sacrificed her entire life taking care of her family. She truly felt this was her purpose in life. Her love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was at the forefront of her existence. She spent her entire life dedicated to ensuring the needs of her children came first. Of course her biggest commitment was to her youngest son, who has many health challenges. A mother’s strength is truly tested when presented with such challenges. Although she experienced intolerable circumstances at times, she demonstrated tremendous strength during those difficult times, which was truly inspirational to all of us. Her love for her son, Todd, was special and never wavered. She worried about him constantly, even in her last days.
Mom and Dad loved to dance. They attended many dances over the years where quite often onlookers stood by to admire them dancing to the jive. Mom was also a great baker. We would often arrive home from school to find Mom bee bopping around the kitchen to tunes on the radio while she prepared fresh baked cookies, biscuits, bread or pies. After her children were grown, Mom went to work at Sears. She took pride in her appearance and always dressed in the latest fashions.
One of Mom’s great pastimes was shopping. She went on many road trips with her daughter, granddaughter, sister, sisters-in law and nieces. Sometimes for sight seeing trips, but on many occasions, strictly for shopping. She always had to buy something for everyone in the family. Christmas was her favourite holiday. She loved everything from shopping for gifts, decorating her home, to preparing the meal. The most important part to her was having all of her family together.
There were also many great memories at the camp where Mom prepared delicious meals, swam, water skied and hosted many family gatherings. Mom was a good sport and was up for trying anything. Up until her early eighties you could find her frolicking on the trampoline with any one of her great-grandchildren.
Fond memories of our mother’s love and nurturing fill our hearts and minds as we reflect on her commitment to her family. We were truly blessed to have had her as our mother. She was simply the Best!
