Some of the most exciting times and memories of my childhood were when we went to visit you in Halifax. You left a lasting impression on my brothers and I by spending time with us, playing games with us, and trying to teach us things like playing piano.

Although I never saw you much. I have nothing but fond memories, love, admiration and respect for the time we spent together and amazing life you had lived rest in peace gramma.

Nanny, you meant more to me than words can ever express. You had such a positive impact on my life and we were all so truly blessed as a family. I'll always remember you with a smile.

Dear Ann Louise, Doug, Mary, Peter and Michael, 
I have lovely memories of kind, gentle and compassionate Anna. Over the years, I have felt her caring, joyful and youthful way during several visits and meals with Anna on my  summer trips to Halifax to visit Ann Louise and Paul. Her openness and hospitality was felt when I stayed with her while attending conferences in Halifax. I experienced Anna as a woman who was there for you, who offered a felt presence and a genuine lively interest in a person's story. Her twinkling eyes and her smiling face were captivating and will not be forgotten. To be sure, her deep love and commitment for life, for her family , her friends and her faith has served both her and others well. Her spirit, so beautifully shared, will continue to live on through all those whom she has touched, and there are many. I celebrate the gift Anna is. I can only imagine, Anna, the delight you are experiencing in your reunion with the love of your life, Doug. Anna, may it be beautiful before you, may it be beautiful behind you, may it be beautiful above, may it be beautiful below you, may it be beautiful all around you. In beauty may you rest in peace.

To the Laffin family, I doubt there were ever two people who had better lives than Doug and Anna Laffin. Of course you would know that already, and can take comfort in that. The Laffin household was the place to be growing up, because Mr. and Mrs. Laffin would take the time to talk and get to know you, and welcome you into their home. They always trusted you to do the right thing, and would later forgive you if you didn't, and there were times, as kids and teenagers, we didn't. Mrs. Laffin was an outgoing, full of life person, who even sounded that way every time she answered the phone with a hello that made you feel at ease. I hope you all can feel at peace knowing your mom made such a positive influence to so many people.

I grew up with Peter (Leif). The Laffin home on Preston Street was definitely one the most "kid-friendly homes among all my childhood friends' homes because of the warmth you felt there and how both Mr. and Mrs. Laffin always took a genuine interest! Many a sleepover was had there over the years and we always got to watch the late movies. Pretty sure I learned to drink coffee there too! Warm memories! My sincere condolences to the entire family.

How fortunate you were to have Anna for a mother, how fortunate for her to have you for children. So sorry to hear about your Mom's passing. We have so many memories of growing up on Preston St., next door neighbours who were really one big family. Anna was always patient and kind with never an angry word no matter what our behaviour. She lived a wonderful life and now has gone on to her reward in heaven. As you struggle with Aunt Anna's passing, I want you to know that you are not alone in your sadness.  
She was a very beautiful and special lady.  This past week has been filed with many great memories of our time with her.  Your trips to Queensport and Guysborough, and Dad and I cutting a Christmas tree for you.  I loved how she lit up when I brought her a plate of freshly caught lobster.
She always had a way of making you feel good when you were trying to make her feel good.  So as sad as you feel right now, remember all the good times that are etched in your mind and hearts and know she is watching over us all along with Uncle Doug, Mom and Dad.
We will forever hold wonderful memories of her.

Will never forget all those times visiting when I was young, as it was a big part of my childhood. Will miss you lots.

To my grandma or "gramma" as I used to spell it in out letters. You lived to be just shy of 95 and had a great and meaningful life. Helping anybody you could along the way. I only wish I could have known you better but being a country away has it's challenges. I wish you could have seen me grow into a young man. I wish you could have met my soon to be wife. ( she's a nurse just like you were) Even though we rarely met, my love for you remained strong over distance and time. I will miss you and I love you very much.

Dear Mum: We were truly blessed and are thankful to have had you with us for so long. You showed me pure love and.... it didn't hurt that you only saw the good in me !!! Mom's deep, heartfelt caring, not only for her family, but for the community at large.  Her confident and joyous attitude for life in general was a great influence on everyone, who were lucky enough to know her.

My heart goes out to the Laffin family with Anna's passing. I remember my dad saying Thousands now living will never die  As I see him in many of our family, Anna lives on through her children and grandchildren and many of those who knew her. I will remember her for her kindness and genuine interest when I shared anything that was happening in my life with her. My life is better for Anna having touched it.

Aunt Anna was such a kind, loving and wonderful woman. I have such fond memories with her that I will cherish for years to come. Sending all my love to everyone back home this week, even though I cannot be there Thursday, I will be there I spirit RIP Aunt Anna, we will always remember you xox

Ann Laffin   You were such a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother, friend, aunt and cousin.  Your presence will be deeply missed by all who knew you and who were touched by your kind heart and generosity.  When I came to Halifax with Christopher  by myself I was scared (Christopher was 10 months old and just started walking) .  I am coming to stay with this family I really didn't know, but your mom was awesome, she made me feel very welcomed and at ease with your family. At that time I discovered that Ann really liked to shop, and I am not a shopper by any means.  Even though I didn't like to shop Ann did bring it out of me .  I looked forward to the times we would go to Halifax, or she would come to Nanaimo, and we would go shopping which turned out to be a high-lite for us.  Ann is the only one I went shopping with. I am so glad that I was able to come to Halifax for her 90th birthday, I will treasure my memories of your mom and will miss her smiling face.  Christopher, Patrick and Philip will always remember her as the Grandma who laughed and smiled while she played the piano for them. When I think of Ann I will picture her in a garden of flowers with the beautiful smile she always had. I know it is not easy losing your last parent, but your mom is now back with the love of her life and they together are looking down on the beautiful family they built together.  I am sorry for your loss of your Mom/Grandmother cherish your memories of her, I know I will.

She was longtime and valued member of our association and was very proud of having served her country as a Lieutenant Nursing Sister (RCAMC) during WWII.  We have missed her good humour and lively conversation at our annual Armistice Day luncheons over the past few years but we always remember Ann with great respect and affection.

My condolance to Mrs Laffin family on the loss of a woderful lady. She was my nursing instructor at the Halifax Infirmary School of  Nursing in 1976. She was a mentor and role model to all the nursing students. I remember before any exams she would lead the class in prayer.Rest in peace Mrs Laffin because you were much love by your students.I grew up in Halifax but I have lived in Los Angeles for the past twenty eight years.
