WEINBERG, Louis—Louis Weinberg, a resident of Tenafly, NJ for more than forty years, died peacefully on August 27, 2012 at the age of 93. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 15, 1919 to Bessie and Harry Weinberg. He met his wife of fifty years, the former Isabella Goldin, when they were both graduate students at the Massachusetts Institue of Technology (MIT). She predeceased him on February 18, 2002. Survivors include his daughter Amy (Robert Taurozzi) of New York, his son Mark (Leslie) of Tenafly and his son Paul (Shay Londre) of Los Angeles as well as five grandchildren, Alison Weinberg, Samantha Weinberg, Jacob Weinberg, Talia Feuerstein (Todd) and Sharon Fishfeld (Ariel Reinheimer). Dr. Weinberg graduated from Brooklyn College in 1941 (AB in English). As a student he honed skills as diverse as boxing and writing, which both remained lifelong interests. He served as a Lieutenant in the US Army Air Forces during WWII. His military involvement in electronics and radar gave new direction to his interests. After the war he received an MS in Applied Physics from Harvard University in 1947 and an ScD in Electrical Engineering from MIT in 1951. From 1951 to 1961 he headed the Communications and Networks Research Section at the Hughes Research Laboratories (Hughes Aircraft Company) in California. From 1965 he was a Professor of Electrical Engineering at City College of the City University of New York (and later also a Professor of Mathematics at the Graduate Center, CUNY) until his retirement in 1990. Louis Weinberg authored the classic text Network Analysis and Synthesis, parts of five other books and had over 90 papers published in technical journals. He was elected a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 1960 for his contributions to network theory. He was also named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and had numerous other professional affiliations. Funeral services were private.
