He graduated from James Monroe High School in the Bronx and served in the Army during the Korean War. He married Libby Greenbaum on January 21, 1955, and they enjoyed over 60 wonderful years together. Libby predeceased him in September 2015.
Arnold’s career was in retail men’s clothing. He worked for many years for Schlesinger’s in West New York, NJ, followed by F.R. Tripler in Manhattan and Saks Off 5th in NJ. He also volunteered for many years at Englewood Hospital. Arnold lived in the Bronx during his childhood and early years of marriage, moving to Manhattan in 1962 until 1972. He moved his family to New Milford, NJ, where he resided until 2020.
He spent his final 4 years in Assisted Living, primarily at Allegro Senior Living in Harrington Park, NJ. Arnold enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, theater, film, history, swimming, reading, and cooking. He was an avid foodie and very health conscious.
He was a member of New Milford’s Congregation Beth Tikvah until it merged with Paramus Jewish Center to form the Jewish Community Center of Paramus, where he continued participating with its congregation.
His funeral was held on July 24, 2024, at Gutterman & Musicant, followed by interment at Cedar Park Cemetery in Paramus, next to his beloved wife, Libby. He is survived by his daughter Andrea Kessler and her husband Bruce Marks, his son David Kessler and his wife Marci Kessler. His surviving grandsons are Jason Marks, Zachary Kessler and Devon Kessler.
Arnold will be remembered by all who knew him as the consummate gentleman. He had a kind and generous heart, was dedicated to his family and friends, and committed to his community.
