Ruth N. Hedberg

Ruth was preceded in death by her brother, Roger (Margaret) Newell, and husband Earl of 68 years. Together Earl and Ruth raised two daughters, Laurel Fisher and Julia (Tim) Ellwanger. Ruth was a wonderful sister, wife and mother who was always there when we needed her the most, offering support, wisdom and abundant love.

Ruth attended Illinois Wesleyan and North Central College. She worked as an administrative assistant in the Waukegan School District for more than 30 years, retiring from Oakdale School in 1995. Earl and Ruth spent the next 20 years traveling, escaping the Illinois winters in Casa Grande, Arizona, making incredible memories and new friends.

Ruth’s family asks that she be remembered for the happiness that she brought to others in life, and to always thank and appreciate those around you. She was so proud of her grandchildren – Eric (Gabi) Fisher, Justin (Cass) Fisher, Michelle (Nick) Sanchez, and Matthew and Mark Ellwanger. She was also blessed with great grandchildren – Cooper, Tucker and Summer Fisher, and one on the way for Michelle and Nick.

The family would like to thank the incredible staff for the assisted living residents at Green Oaks Senior Living in Libertyville, as well as her personal caregivers, Mira and Elsie. We will forever be grateful for the care and compassion you showed to Ruth.

A private memorial service will be held in 2025 where Ruth and Earl will be laid to rest together in Hildegard Cemetery in Conover, Wisconsin.
