Maria Jesus Arevalo went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, October 10, 2022. She was born September 20, 1928 in Coltauco, Chile where she spent her childhood and younger adult years until she emigrated to Mexico in 1965 and then to the United States in 1967.
She trained and worked as a nurse for several years and later worked as a nanny to twin boys in Highland Park, Illinois after coming to the United States.
Maria was kind, caring, generous, and had a keen sense of humor. She loved surrounding herself with flowers and enjoyed listening to music. She was always very independent even after losing her sight over the years. She had many friendships throughout her life and was especially devoted to her family in Chile, keeping in frequent touch with them by phone.
She had been a member of the former GraceLife Church (pka New Life Christian Church) in Waukegan, Illinois for 25 years. She so enjoyed being a greeter to all who came through the doors. In recent years, she attended the First Baptist Church in Waukegan.
Maria’s memory is cherished by her niece, Loreto Aracena Saladana and her family, and her caregiver, Issamar Valencia, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Burton Gross and her parents.
Visitation will be held Saturday, November 26 starting 2:00 PM followed by a funeral service at 4:00 PM at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 N. Cemetery Rd., in Gurnee, Illinois. Interment will be with her family at the Parroquial Cemetery in her hometown of Coltauco, Chile.
