Judith E. Crockett, age 84, of Gurnee passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at her home with family by her side. Judith was born on January 15, 1938 in Chicago, IL to Edward and Lillian (Jalafsky) Sherlock. She graduated from Waller High School. She married James Crockett on September 17, 1955 in Chicago. In 1970, they built their home in Grandwood Park. Judith was a dog groomer for many years. She then worked for Northern Trust holding multiple jobs including safety deposits, which gave her quite a few good stories. She served on the Lake County Reserves Deputies Unit. She received the Capt. James F. Crockett Distinguished Service Award in 1997, named after her husband. Judith was a longtime member of Crossway Church in Bristol, WI. Judith enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and was an all-around seamstress. She made costumes for the Christmas shows and donated “pillowcase dresses” to a charitable group for children in Africa. She was known there as the Jelly Belly lady, letting the children pick a jelly bean after church. She also kept busy helping sort buttons for a button museum in Gurnee Her greatest joy was the time she spent with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by, her parents; her husband; a grandson, David II and her brother, who had the same birthdate just 7 years earlier, Raymond Sherlock.
Judith is survived by, two sons, David (Sandi) Crockett and Jeffrey Crockett; a daughter, Susan Crockett; her daughter-in-law, Susanne Crockett; six grandchildren, Tricia, Rachel, Jeremy, Jamie, Sarah and Ronnie; eight great grandchildren, Ethan, Lillian, Lennon, Adalynn, Ronald Jr., Raelynn, Oliver and Freya as well as family and friends, near and far.
Funeral services for Judith will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at the Marsh Funeral Home (305 N. Cemetery Road, Gurnee, IL). A visitation will be held on Tuesday at the funeral home from 4:00 P.M. until the time of service. A private family entombment will be held in the Warren Cemetery in Gurnee.
