It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Silvio George Valeriote, age 80, surrounded by his family on November 27th, 2024, after a brave and enduring battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Silvio was a pillar of strength, support, and love for his family. He is now reunited with his beloved son David (2023), his parents Mico and Mary Valeriote, Leonard and Marguerite Buck, brother Joseph, niece Kristen, brother-in-law Peter and many other cherished relatives. Silvio’s love for his wife, Sharron (Buck), married 56 years, children Anne Marie (Mark) Beattie, Mary Beth (Shane) Bascoe, and his grandchildren Joshua, Cash, Jasmine, Isabelle, and Audrey remained unwavering throughout his life. He will be missed by his siblings Mary Ann, Rochelle, Judy, Frank and by his brothers and sisters in-law along with his extended family and friends. His legacy of love, resilience and kindness will live on in them.
Born in Guelph, Silvio was raised in The Ward always surrounded by family and friends. The importance of community, along with pride in his Italian heritage, built the strong foundation of his character. His family were his friends and his friends were his family.
An accomplished cook and baker, taught by his mother in his childhood, it was Silvio’s passion to share his love of food and hospitality at every opportunity. His warmth and generosity of spirit were felt by all who knew him. An abundance of food was a must; the larger the crowd the better, as he would happily prepare for hours anticipating the gatherings.
Sil lived a life full of passion, love, and adventure. It was his every day mission to connect with people, known or unknown, and after 5 minutes no one remained a stranger. Sil would successfully figure out their six degrees of separation, and proceed to explain it to anyone in the vicinity. He was a proud Papa who encouraged and cheered on his grandchildren in all aspects of their life.
Sil was a dedicated high school Biology and World Religions teacher of 30 years, who inspired and educated his students with passion and enthusiasm daily. Outside the classroom, he found joy in his love for biking the open roads, swimming daily, and was a committed aqua fit instructor in the community for many years in his retirement. Silvio loved music, and whether poolside or on a dance floor, he would bust out his moves while making it a workout. He was also a world traveler with his wife Sharron. They were fortunate to explore many new places, cultures and experiences with their close friends and family, enriching their lives.
