Rich was a graduate of the University of Guelph Turf Management Program. He spent the majority of his career in the golf industry in Golf Course Management, Consultation, Golf Course Design and Construction. He began his career in Ontario working at Westmount Golf and Country Club in Kitchener then moved to Merryhill Golf Course in Maryhill and Galaglades Golf Course in Cambridge. For 36 years he worked as the Golf Course Manager at Cutten Fields in Guelph. He also designed and constructed golf holes at Senjan Golf Course, Fairview Golf Club, Belwood Golf Course and South Ocean Golf Course in the Bahamas. He was a long time member of the OGSA and the recipient of the William Samson Distinguished Service Award in 2017. After a short retirement, Rich found a new passion working independently doing home renovations.
Rich enjoyed many hobbies that he shared with his family including: fishing, boating/sailing, travelling, love of cars, skiing, cottage time and watching his kids participate in their sporting and musical passions. He had a positive outlook on life, a great sense of humour and approached every aspect of his life with integrity. He was a true gentleman!
For 34 years Rich was the beloved husband of Darlene. He was the loving father of Mike (Danielle), Danielle, Dylan and Susan (Peter). Adored Grandfather to Stephen (Chelsey), William , Emma, Ivy and Ruby, Great Grandfather to Ben and Rowan. Rich was predeceased by his parents Edgar Herbert and Dorothy Mildred Creed (nee Davies). He leaves behind his in-laws Hank and Helen Lindeman. Rich is survived by his devoted siblings Ken (Colleen) of Vulcan, Alberta, Rhonda (Jeff) of Winnipeg, Manitoba and sister-in-law Jackie (Louis) of Fergus. He is also survived by his nieces Connie, Nancy and Anika and a nephew Brian and their families.
Cremation has taken place. A private family service to be held at Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph, Ontario on Tuesday, March 14 at 1pm.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Guelph Country Club on Sunday, April 2, 2023 from 1-4 pm.
