Maria Orso

Peacefully on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at the Guelph General Hospital with family holding her hands. Maria (Facchinello) Orso, age 92 years (born in Loria, Italy), wife of the late Antonio Orso (2006). She was the loving mother of Roberta and George Longo of Guelph, Paula and Mark Wendland of Kitchener, and Lucy and Mike Cotton of London. Loved and proud Nonna of Matthew and Michelle Longo, Lauryn and Chris Decker, Jeremy and Jenny Wendland, Adam Wendland (Michelle Miller), Cole Wendland (Sarah Arnott), Zoe Cotton (Joe Gillen), Alison Cotton (Ian Jordan) and Isabella Cotton. Loved Bisnonna of Dominic, Andrew and Julianne Longo, Reid Decker, Jillian and James Wendland.

She was happiest when she was in her garden picking fresh produce that she nurtured and grew. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and baking; many secrets which were passed on through the generations. She lived life her way!

We would like to personally thank the PSWs of Care Partners who took care of her at home and also to the staff of Guelph General Hospital. Our family would also like to express our gratitude to Father Boyd, Father Valentine and Father Sanvido for their compassion and care during our Mother’s remaining days. She will be greatly missed by friends and family both here and in France and Italy. The bells of Loria, Italy were rung on the day of her passing!

Resting at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin St. N., Guelph. Visitation will take place on Friday, October 27, 2023 from 2-4 p.m. and 6:30-8:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. John’s Church 45 Victoria Rd N., Guelph on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 9 a.m. Interment at Marymount Cemetery, Guelph, following the service.
