Irene Meagher

Irene was born in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario to Stephen and Catherine Stack (O’Connor) on January 28, 1929. Predeceased by her loving husband of 61 years Francis Meagher in 2011. Beloved Mother of Lauchie (Pauline) Meagher and Diane (Joseph) Hanlon. Much cherished Nana to Jaimie (Matt MacKinnon), Katie (Rudy David), Stephen (Heather Robertson), Matthew (Sarah Dionne), Laura (Adam Pettifer) and Sarah (Rob Samson). Smitten Great-Nana to Tyler, Carter, Liam, Nolan, Henry, Nathan, Ozzy, Ophelia, Audrey and Charlie. She was the last sibling left of the Stack family. Predeceased by Jerome, Evelyn, Lillian, Carmel, Vivian, Geraldine, Loretta, Melvin, Lenora (Bubbles) and Greg. Survived by Sister-in-law Lynn Stack and Brother in law Joseph Sheeler.

Irene met the love of her life Francis Meagher and they married in Kirkland Lake on August 7, 1950. They set up homes in Kirkland Lake, Chelmsford, Elliot Lake and Manitouwadge, where she lived for 58 years. Together they enjoyed family and friends, time spent at Loken Lake and travel with their camper and fifth wheel. Irene enjoyed her friends and girl evenings, crafts, painting and ceramics and caring for her family Her home was warm and inviting with her many creative touches. Nothing pleased her more than to have a visit with her friends and family in her home. Flowers adorned her back patio where she loved to visit with anyone.

Irene was a very prayerful and faith-filled woman and offered daily prayers for all her loved ones near and far. Her room was filled with the sounds of her much-loved Cape Breton tunes.

Irene moved to Guelph to live with her daughter and family in September 2022. Although leaving her home and family in Manitouwadge was difficult, she settled into her new home well. The arrival of two new great–grandchildren in 2023 did help with the transition.

We would like to thank Irene’s dedicated medical team in Manitouwadge and also Guelph, including Dr. Albion and Dr. Mayrand, Dr. Carey Shafir and Bayshore nurse Shannon and Barb and Andrea of HCCSS for their professionalism and compassion. Another special thank you to Garth Whittick and Hospice Volunteers at the Hospice Wellington Weekly Day Program for their kindness and support.

Resting at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St, Guelph, a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 11 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, (3 Shawinigan Place, Manitouwadge, Ontario) Interment to follow at Manitouwadge Community Cemetery. Reception to follow at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated in memory of Irene to Operation Smile or Santé Manitouwadge Health building fund.
