Elizabeth, cherished daughter of Peter and Marianne, and loving sister of Natalie, passed away much too soon, on Friday December 6th, 2019. Liz loved being surrounded by her extended family. Left to mourn her, is her grandfather Wallace, her aunts, uncles and cousins throughout Canada and the U.S.
Our hearts are heavy, but we are comforted in knowing that she touched so many lives in such a short period of time.
Liz was raised in Caledon East, and left for Guelph to attend university. After graduating with a BSC in Zoology, she continued her studies and was in the process of beginning her thesis to complete her Master’s Degree through the University of Edinburgh.
Liz loved Guelph and never looked back, adopting this city as her new home. With a passion for her community and to assist those in need, Liz sought opportunities to make an impact on the lives around her.
Liz sat on the board of the Guelph Neighbourhood Support Coalition. A network of neighbourhood groups whose goal is to meet the needs of those most at risk in Guelph. Under the GNSC, she founded and was executive director of Pet Protect Guelph, a non-profit pet fostering program.
She also started “Homework Club”, another program run under the umbrella of the GNSC. She saw the value of free, quality tutoring and homework help to those children who would otherwise not have this access.
Elizabeth was also the Volunteer and Fundraising Coordinator for the National Wildlife Centre, an organization that helps native wildlife via programs that promote education and conservation.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the incredible group of personal care workers who worked for Liz throughout the years. We can’t name everyone, but please know that you enabled Liz to live life to the fullest on her own terms. With special thanks to Emma and Joy, and to family friend, Melissa, who came to Liz’s rescue on more than one occasion, our deepest gratitude.
The family would like to invite everyone to a memorial service for Elizabeth at The Arboretum, University of Guelph, 200 Arboretum Rd, Guelph, on Saturday, December 14th, 2019 at 1 p.m. with a reception to follow.
If you would like to make a donation in Liz’s memory please consider Pet Protect Guelph, Guelph Neighbourhood Support Coalition or National Wildlife Centre.
The purpose of life, is a life of purpose.
