It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Barry James Slade, 67, peacefully at the Guelph General Hospital, on Friday, May 12, 2023. Barry was the beloved husband of his high school sweetheart Valerie Slade (nee Cox) for 39 years. He was the extremely proud father of Alex (Elizabeth McRae) and Robbie (Shani). Treasured grandfather of Jacob, Jordyn and Sebastian Slade. Barry is survived by his sister Merrilyn (late George) O’Brien and by his two nephew’s Kevin and David. Barry deeply cared for everyone and his absence will be profoundly felt by many.
We will remember his kind words of wisdom, selflessness, his larger-than-life sense of humour that touched all who knew him, but mostly he was a loving faithful husband, devoted father, brother and friend to many. Barry was a strong supporter of the Canadian Armed Forces and was immensely proud of his two sons and daughter in law for serving. Barry was an avid listener to classic rock and enjoyed relaxing to his record collection. He always cherished the weekly coffee “meetings” with the guys. Barry most of all loved spending time with his family. He proudly served the community as a Paramedic and a supervisor for Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Service (Royal City Ambulance Service) for +35 years.
Private cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Barry’s Life will be held at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin St. N., Guelph on Saturday May 27, 2023 at 2 p.m. Visitation prior to the celebration from 12 noon - 2 p.m. A reception will follow in the funeral home Fellowship Lounge.
As expression of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. Donation cards are available at the funeral home. You may leave condolences online at www.gilbertmacintyreandson.com
