

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rita G. Bickel (89) on March 28, 2025, at her residence in Grove City, Ohio. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt who cherished her family with all her heart.
Born on September 16, 1935, in Columbus, Ohio. Rita’s warm spirit and giving heart touched everyone she met. As a young girl, she was honored to serve as the Westside Jubilee Queen, a title that reflected grace and generosity. Those were qualities she then carried with her throughout her life. Rita married her beloved husband, George, on February 1, 1955, and they were happily married for 39 years before his passing. He was the love of her life and they cherished each other throughout their marriage. Together, they welcomed two children they adored and loved with all their hearts.
Rita was blessed with a beautiful singing voice that she lovingly shared through her husband’s ministry. She was also a gifted writer of beautiful poetry.
Rita had a keen eye for fashion. She was known for her great sense of style, always looking polished and put together in everything she wore. She also loved decorating and thrifting, always finding unique treasures to add character and charm to her home. Her impeccable taste and creativity were admired by all who knew her.
She dedicated her life to her family, faith and friends, always putting the needs of others before her own. She welcomed everyone with open arms and a selfless heart, never hesitating to offer help, comfort, or encouragement to those in need. She believed that love, kindness, and faith were the greatest gifts one could share and she shared them abundantly with others. Her unwavering faith was the foundation of her life and she professed it to all who would listen, offering hope and inspiration to all around.
Rita is survived by her children Craig (Judy) Bickel and Pam (Terry) Burke; and her grandchildren Jacquie Bickel, Joel Bickel, Julie (Bill) Tigner, Matt (Sarah) Burke, Jessica (Andy Anderson) Burke; and great-grandchildren Isabella, Austin, Grayson, Hunter, Gianna, Cameron and Lachlan; nephew Bruce (Mary) Nelson, niece Debbie (Duke) Collins, and cousin (Sissy) Rhoda Laff, and all who will forever cherish her love and the warmth of her presence. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents, Robert and Pearl Nelson; brother Bob Nelson; granddaughter Jennifer Cornwell; nephew, Dan Nelson; cousin Carol Shoemaker and life long friend Cledith King.
Rita’s spirit, faith, and the legacy of her selflessness will continue to shine in the countless lives she touched. She will be deeply missed but live on in our hearts forever.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 6, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Schoedinger Grove City, 4242 Hoover Road, Grove City, OH 43123. Rita’s funeral service will be held 10:30 AM Monday. Interment will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery.
