Rev. Philip Wayne Amburgey, age 70, of London, Ohio passed away peacefully at Kobacker House on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 after a yearlong battle with kidney cancer. He was born July 14, 1953, in Dayton, Ohio to the late Donaldson and Grace (Gillem) Amburgey.
Phil was a very introspective and private man. He was an empathetic listener and an honest opinion giver. He enjoyed a good pizza, Chick-Fil-A nuggets, and a Tim Hortons French Vanilla. If there was an onion within 5 miles, he could smell it and he would tell you he wasn’t eating it. His interests outside of work and ministry were quiet in nature as well. He was an avid fisherman. Phil could talk your ear off about fish, fishing lures, fishing poles, boats, etc. Some of his greatest moments in life were on the water with family and friends. Phil was also committed to a healthier lifestyle and exercised daily. Many conversations were had while he was on his stair climber. He looked forward to his daily walks with his “little girl” dog, Addy.
Phil demonstrated an incredible work ethic throughout his life as he climbed up the ladder at Sears and Sears Logistic Services. When asked what his role was at Sears, he spoke proudly about his most recent role as a logistician. He made many friends and influenced many careers during his 45 years there and spoke highly of the company.
Phil discovered a calling later in life at Grove City Church of the Nazarene. He became an active member of the church and decided to further his education. He attended Southern California Seminary and obtained his degree in biblical studies and was ordained as a Minister in 2019. From there, Phil became a dedicated servant to God, and touched the lives of countless people through his years of Ministry at both The Grove City and London Church of the Nazarene, as well as his work as a Hospice Chaplain at ProMedica. He cherished each visit while offering guidance, comfort and spiritual support to patients, families, and healthcare providers. He leaves behind a profound legacy of faith, compassion and service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Mike Amburgey and his granddaughter, Macy Meadows.
Phil is survived by his beloved wife, Marie; daughter, Angel (Scott) Meadows and grandchildren Mack, Laynie, and Kinley; Siblings, Wes, Ron, Kathy, and Donnie Amburgey; Step Children Tammy and Tony Shaw, Shelley (Aaron) Denney and grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
He will be deeply missed by all. His family and friends will forever cherish the memories they shared together.
Visitation will be held 11 A.M.– 1 P.M. Wednesday May 1, 2024 at The Naz Church, 4770 Hoover Rd., Grove City, Ohio 43123. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Interment Sunset Cemetery.
