Molly and family, Dale and I are so sorry to hear of James passing. 

Jim was one of the coolest uncles a boy could ever have, as a very young boy I spent some weekend ends with Jim. He taught me a lot . He was very smart and informed on lots of stuff, but he was my favorite uncle growing up. You will be greatly missed Jim, rest in peace.  I still think of you often.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Emily, and your entire family.    As you know, Jim was such a special person.  He was the heart and soul of MEC.  I read Jeff Culwell's letter to the META Staff (formerly MEC), and I cannot agree more with everything he wrote. 

I look fondly back on the many long nights with Jim and Jeff trying to figure out the answers to the current puzzle we were working on at the time... waiting to hear those words from Jim, "I got it", and he always did.  I would drive home thinking of how lucky I was to work with Jim.

As we all got closer to retirement, I can remember asking Jim to "let me know when you will be retiring, so I can walk out the door before you!"  His depth of knowledge and willingness to assist anyone in need was legendary and I cannot imagine working at MEC without him.

Jim always made time for anyone that needed help.  As Jeff said, he was a pure public servant.  I will always appreciate the patience he had with me and his gentle demeanor... great qualities for one so gifted.

Molly:  You and your entire family have my sincere condolences of Jim's passing.  I sent the following to our organization, just so that people might know the work that is done, by the people before them.  Here it is:

Sometime along around 1979 or 1980 I became aware of an exceptional person that was writing software for the Dept. of Education – Division of School Finance.  I also worked at ODE, but I was in a different section there and only saw and talked to this person – on occasion.  As time went on… it became apparent this person held “special qualities”… and I do mean SPECIAL.  One of them… as I later learned… was the ability to READ something in a Technical Manual, understood how something worked in one reading… then was able to recite it later, when I (or someone else) was trying to learn the same thing.  Kind of a “photographic memory” if you will.  This person’s name was Jim Lovsey.  In 1984 he was hired by a NEW “A” SITE (ITCs in those days were called “A” sites by ODE).  It was the Metropolitan Educational Council and he was hired as their “Systems Manger”  or “Systems Administrator”.  It was of course… located in Columbus.  MEC would later become one of the 5 merged sites that established META SOLUTIONS.  Six years later (in 1990) I also was hired by MEC, and I was tickled that I would be able to work with and learn from this Jim Lovsey fellow.  I don’t have the writing skills to be able to tell you what he meant to myself, our staff, nor the School Districts we served for the next 21 years together, but him being 13 years my senior… meant he was going to RETIRE before me.  He did retire from MEC in the summer of 2011, but we kept in touch when we could and attended various lunches together… enjoying talking about the “old days”.  He turned 75 this past Oct. 2 and suffered a massive stroke a few weeks ago.  He passed away on Sunday. 

He was a “pure” Public servant and he certainly won’t be forgotten BY THE MANY that knew him.
