Betty Lou Reeder Phillis, 84, went on to be with her Lord and Savior on July 9, 2022, a goal she had since her early youth. When she peacefully passed, she was surrounded by her husband, her children, and some dear friends. She was born in Columbus, Ohio on June 23, 1938, to Glade and Dorotha Reeder. Her father, Glade, was a Columbus Police Officer. She was raised with three sisters, Lois, Patricia and Connie. She is survived by her loving husband, William Sr, daughter, Tamera (Tim) Holzer, son, William Jr. (Marla) and six grandchildren Josh Votaw, Megan (Luke) Taylor, Jordyn (Johan) Bravo, Coleton (Kristin) Holzer, William Phillis III and Madison Phillis, and great grandson, Jackson Votaw. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberly Eagle. Although Betty was a graduate of The Ohio State University to be an educator, she chose the critical role of homemaker for most of her life. She taught at a business college and had short term roles as a teacher in both public and private schools. Betty played a support role in her husband’s more than 60 years as an educator, educational administrator, and public-education advocate. She focused her attention on the support of the careers of her husband and her children. Betty was active in various churches of Christ, most recently the Alkire Rd. Church of Christ, as a teacher of children and women. She was active in various roles for more than 50 years at Fort Hill Christian Youth Camp in Highland County, Ohio. Betty’s kind, compassionate and considerate demeanor along with her ever-present smile despite her myriad of health issues earned the admiration of her family and hundreds of others. She is genuinely missed by her husband, her children, her grandchildren and her entire family and many friends and acquaintances. A time of visitation will be held on Friday, July 15, 2022 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at SCHOEDINGER GROVE CITY 4242 Hoover Rd. A celebration of life service will be held at 9:30 am on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at the Alkire Rd. Church of Christ 2779 Alkire Rd. Grove City, OH 43123
Burial will follow at Oak Dale Cemetery in Marysville, Ohio. The family suggests that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to Fort Hill Christian Youth Camp. 13500 Fort Hill Road, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133. Please visit www.schoedinger.com to sign Betty’s online guest book.
