William Bayer passed away on June 2, 2015 at Advantage Living Center in Harper Woods at the age of 92. He was born in Detroit on September 5, 1922; the youngest of seven children. Bill served proudly in the United States Army Air Corp. After his discharge Bill met Betty Jean Verhaeghe while in the church choir at Our Lady Queen of Peace. They married on April 19, 1952 at St. Clare of Montefalco Church in Grosse Pointe Park. They enjoyed 63 wonderful years of marriage. Bill retired from the Fisher Body Plant in 1980 as a designer. He was a key member on the team that first developed the prototype for the first infant car seat. Bill was a personable, kind, and generous man would donate to numerous charities. His superior golf game earned him a first place trophy in the General Motors league he was participating in. He loved fishing and fly fishing. His biggest love in life was his family and spending as much time with them at the cottage in Kingsville, Ontario. He was a devout catholic who would rarely miss going to Sunday Mass until his health deteriorated as he became older. He will be truly missed by everyone that knew him. He leaves behind his wife Betty and two daughters; Judi (the late Gene) Lacy and Patty (Robert) Woronko. He was proud of his granddaughter Hilary Lacey (Scott), and grandson Patrick Lacy (Kait). He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 3:00 pm until the time of his funeral at 7:00 pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave., at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. Fr. Anthony Sulkowski will officiate.
