Thomas L. Sheahan, age 84, died peacefully on August 20, 2012 after an extended illness. He was born on December 17, 1927 in Detroit, the son of William and Emily Sheahan. Tom grew up on Detroit's eastside and was a 1946 graduate of Denby High School. He enlisted in the United States Army and served his country in Japan. After his enlistment, he attended the University of Detroit. His work history included sales at Michigan Mutual Insurance, Guardian Underwriters and Lawyer's Title where he retired from in 1985. During his early years at Lawyer's Title, Tom met Gail Brown. They were married in 1962 at St. Matthew Church in Detroit. The couple made their home in St. Clair Shores for 35 years and 15 years in Macomb Township. Mr. Sheahan liked to dabble in investments, enjoyed reading and watching television and sports. He was a Past President and former member of the Grosse Pointe Lions Club and was active in the 1946 alumni of Denby High School. He also served as an usher at St. Lucy Catholic Church in St. Clair Shores for over 30 years. Tom will be remembered as having a great sense of humor and being a social and charitable man. He was a likeable, loyal friend to many. Mr. Sheahan is survived by his wife, Gail; his children, James, Jane Chapman and Patrick (Gina); his grandchildren, Daniel, Erin, Katherine, Ryan and Jack; and his siblings, James Sheahan and John Sheahan. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother William. Visitation for Mr. Sheahan will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. There will be a scripture service at 7:00 o'clock on Wednesday evening. On Thursday, his body will lie instate at St. Lucy Catholic Church, 23401 Jefferson in St. Clair Shores from 11:30 a.m. until mass begins at 12 noon. Fr. James Commyn will officiate. Interment will be at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly with full military honors. The family has suggested memorial contributions be directed to either the National Kidney Foundation; Finance Department, 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016 or Karmanos Cancer Institute, Contributions, 4100 John R, Detroit, Michigan 48201.
