Tom was the broker at Crown Realty Inc. He started working in the family business after graduating from St. Ambrose High School. He went to the University of Michigan Extension Services. He was in class number one of the Real Estate Alumni of Michigan in 1951. He was unable to attend his graduation as he had enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Tom met his wife, Dorothy, at a dance at Marygrove, where he had snuck in. He and Dorothy were happily married for 59 years before her passing. Tom always said “he married up”, as she was her class valedictorian.
He also owned the Thomas McDonald Insurance Agency for many years where he went on numerous trips around the globe. He was an usher at Our Lady Star of the Sea. At the time of his death, he was still a licensed real estate broke having been active in the business for over 74 years. Tom was very proud of the face that his 5 sons all graduated from U of M while he was earning a living from his little office on Charlevoix.
Tom is survived by his sons, Thomas (Cindy) McDonald, Martin McDonald, James (Debbie) McDonald, Michael (Sherrill) McDonald, and Patrick (Nancy) McDonald. He is also survived by many grandchildren.
A visitation will be held for Tom on Friday, November 3rd from 4pm-8pm. An instate period will be held on Saturday, November 4th at 9:30am at Our Lady Star of the Sea until the time of the funeral mass at 10am.
