September 7th, 1944 - March 12th, 2023
Passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of his life Susan and his loving family.
Have you ever met someone that greeted you with a warm smile, chuckle, and a wisecrack? That was Dick. A delight to be around, Dick instantly became friends with anyone he encountered. His quick wit, eternal love for his smoking hot wife Susan, and sometimes feisty spirit is what cemented him firmly in the hearts of all that knew him. Dick will be remembered for his vivid storytelling around the kitchen island (always insisting on standing), his pride in taking his grandchildren to the Harper Cruise each year in his green convertible Miata, the “Erse,”and his many friendships created while “hooting” at local happy hours with his wife Susan. His vast expertise was shown on the golf course with his cronies, and through his signature dance move, “the Dicko.”
One of six sons, Dick was born on September 7th, 1944, to John and Olive (nee Sangster) Mulrenin in Detroit, Michigan. He attended Annunciation School and graduated from Lakeview High School. He went on to proudly serve the US Navy from 1962 to 1965 before he began his 40-year career with Detroit Edison. He started as a power plant operator and retired as a supervisor. Dick was always described as a “nice guy.” He was clever, generous, and always had a joke ready to tell. He was a dedicated father and devoted husband. Perhaps his favorite role was as an extremely proud Grandpa! There was no home or auto repair project that he could not do himself, and he loved to keep busy. He played in softball, bowling, and golf leagues and coached several teams, most recently his Grandson’s little league team. Always proud of his Irish and Scottish heritage, Dick enjoyed stopping at his Mom’s house for a shot and a beer. He had many friends and had the unique quality of making everyone feel comfortable.
Dick is survived by his cherished wife of 56 years, Susan (nee Cornelia); his daughters, Jill (the late Jeff) McCormick, Jeanette Wieske, and Mary Mulrenin; his grandchildren, Adam, Autumn, and Bethany Wieske, Catherine Latham, and Emmitt and Erin McCormick; his brother Bob (Carolyn) Mulrenin and the late Jim (Dorrie), John, Tom, and Martin (Diann) Mulrenin; his brother-in-law Michael (Rosaland) Cornelia and their daughter Jennifer and the late Terrance and Willard (Gina) Cornelia;he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
