Mary was very family oriented and enjoyed being able to stay home to raise her children. She also loved being involved with Assumption Grotto Catholic Church and was an active member of the Third Order Secular Discalced Carmelites. Family and friends often referred to her as a professional volunteer. She was devoted to helping others, especially her family and always went above and beyond with any given task.
Mary will best be remembered for her knack for finding something for someone. If they needed anything, like even a new refrigerator, she would go out of her way to go online or make phone calls and she’d find a free one someone was giving away and even arrange everything for them.
Mary was also blessed with gift of gab. She was great at making everyone feel welcomed and chatting with them about anything and everything. Mary enjoyed puzzles, crocheting afghans for her children and grandchildren, and going to the Detroit Opera and Symphony. She also loved listening to Elvis, Loretta Lynn, and Conway Twitty.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Patrick Calderwood.
Mary is survived by her beloved husband, Charles; loving children, Stacey (Nino) Phillips, Charles McGuckin, Michael (Lori) McGuckin, Vaughan (Stefanya) McGuckin, Amy (Justin) Pudelek, and Henry (Christina) McGuckin; loving grandchildren, Dominic Phillips, Nicholas Phillips, Destiny McGuckin, Tevis McGuckin, Addison McGuckin and Connor McGuckin; and siblings, William (Terry) Calderwood and Rita Calderwood.
A Funeral Mass will be held for Mary on Friday October 14, 2022 at 10AM, with an Instate starting 9AM at Assumption Grotto Catholic Church (13770 Gratiot Ave. Detroit, MI 48225). In honor of Mary, the family would like to see everyone wear something purple to the service, as it was her favorite color.
