Leonard “Neal” Williams died peacefully at home on January 5th following a short but brutal battle with ALS. He was born in Detroit on August 22, 1951; son of Eileen and Leonard Williams. He grew up in East Detroit and attended East Detroit High School. As a man of many talents, Leonard worked in the automotive industry, the food industry and the music industry as a DJ.
He shared his wife’s passion of working with adults and children with special needs. He was very proud of the mentorship he was able to provide the adults with special needs that he worked with. He loved teaching them new skills and getting them out into the community. He also loved volunteering with his wife’s non-profit the ARC of Grosse Pointe Harper Woods.
He was always down for an adventure and loved chasing the Northern Lights with his wife. Leonard was beloved by all of his friends and family and will be remembered for his quick wit and excellent stories. He also loved photography, animals, nature, Traveling, Detroit sports teams, live music and history. His biggest love in life was his family.
He is survived by his wife Deborah Moffat; daughters Dakota Williams and Lesley Moffat. He will be missed by his sister Christina Leonard (Roy) and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 20th at 11:00 am at St. Michael Episcopal Church, 20475 Sunningdale, Grosse Pointe Woods.
