Early Monday, November 28, 2022, Eleanor Janutol of Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan, transitioned peacefully from the loving arms of her family into the loving arms of Our Lord. At the age of 96, Eleanor spent her final hours surrounded by her children and family members. All were able to say their farewells and pray together.
Eleanor was blessed by her 53 years of marriage to David Janutol (deceased 2001). Her six children, Peter (Barb), Louise Eisenbrey (Brad), Linda Bartos (Greg), Chip (Sue), Angela Aufdemberge (John) and Lisa Frasier (Tim) loved her dearly. Eleanor was blessed with 16 grand children (Chris Janutol, Liz Hubbell, Lauren Smith, Nick Janutol, David Eisenbrey, Ned Eisenbrey, Emily Rennpage, Tom Budday, Adam Budday, Austin Janutol, Shelby Kelsh, Ian Aufdemberge, Phil Aufdemberge, Will Aufdemberge, Jack Frasier and Anthony Frasier) and 22 great-grandchildren. Eleanor’s sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Tony Grego, as well as their five children and families were a big part of the regular family celebrations. Louis Carabelli (brother) and spouse, Shirley, both pre-deceased Eleanor but were the early travel partners for Eleanor and David.
Eleanor was a woman of great faith, and she truly lived out the command to love one another. She served as a Henry Ford (Cottage) Hospital Hospice volunteer for more than 40 years due to her belief that cancer patients should not die alone and family members needed respite and care. Eleanor also served as a member of the Altar Guild at St. Juliana Church in Detroit as well as a Eucharistic Minister for St. Lucy Church with decades of service to St. Mary’s Nursing Home both in St. Clair Shores. When she wasn’t caring for her children or others through her volunteer work, Eleanor enjoyed gardening, world-wide travel with the Nomads Travel Club, dancing with David and cooking and sharing family food traditions. She organized many family celebrations and gatherings throughout the decades.
