May 31, 1930 – January 21, 2019
William Arthur Condon passed away on January 21, 2019 after being hospitalized for more than two months due to a severe heart condition. He was 88. He is survived by his daughter Caren Condon-Weber and her husband Rick, his son Craig and his wife Linda, his grandson Ryan Weber and his wife Heather and their brand new baby boy, Nolan William Weber, born December of 2018 and carries his great-grandfather’s name.
During his time in the hospital, he was surrounded by his family and close friends as he fought hard to overcome his illness.
William, known as Bill to everyone, and Papa to his grandson Ryan Weber and granddaughter-in-law, Heather, was born in Port Angeles, Washington to Rio and William Arthur Condon Sr. on May 31, 1930.
As a child, he and his parents moved around a lot. He lived in Montana, and one of the Dakotas, finally settling down in Portland where he attended Benson High School and enlisted in the Marines.
After serving honorably in the Korean War, where he was a decorated Marine, including a Purple Heart, Bill met and married the love of his life, Wanda Davis in 1955.
Bill and Wanda were happily married before losing Wanda to cancer after 42 years of marriage. While married to Wanda, Bill, who had started working for Union Pacific as a teenager, continued his successful career, finally retiring after 40 years from Portland Traction Co., a union of UP and SP.
Traveling was a great joy to both Bill and Wanda, and they bought a 5th wheel trailer and pickup to go RV’ing and see America. Trips to Hawaii were also included among their favorite travel destinations, which Bill continued even after his beloved Wanda passed away. The memories created on these trips were cherished by Bill for the rest of his life.
Other fun with the family was the cabin they enjoyed on the White Salmon River where fishing, swimming and barbecuing were fun family weekend and vacation pastimes.
After retiring, Bill and Wanda moved to the home they built in Vancouver, where they quickly made lasting friendships with treasured neighbors. While on his own, Bill enjoyed cooking, watching baseball and the stock market and working in his yard. In later years, Bill’s family met each year on his birthday to help spread bark dust and plant new flowers. It was a day that all involved looked forward to each year.
