Thetus "Deanne" Harms passed away June 24th, 2012 in Gresham, OR. She was born October 31st, 1926 in Shawnee Oklahoma to parents Miles and Maggie Mae Mathews, one of six children. She was raised in Oklahoma but spent most of her life on a homestead in Anchorage Alaska. Later in life Deanne moved back to Oklahoma then Oregon to be closer to family.
Deanne served in the Army during the Korean Was as a nurse. After the war she moved to Alaska to continue her nursing career first at The Alaskan Native Service Hospital in Anchorage, then for The State of Alaska. As a member of The Prospector's club she met Rex Harms, whom she married in June 1960. Together they raised a family and became active members of the community. In her spare time Deanne enjoyed reading, writing poetry and was an avid gardener. The family table was often full of the produce she grew. She was a loving wife, supportive mother and grandmother, and a devoted caretaker to her husband as his health declined.
Deanne was preceded in death by her husband, Rex. She is survived by her sister Betty Gunn, daughters Meredith Weber and Ava Harms and grandchildren Kyle Weber, Kelsey Weber an Mikayla Weber.
Services will be held in Alaska, please check back for more information. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Thetus' name to The Alzheimer’s Association.
