Mary E. Morris, born Mary E. Bell in Birmingham, Alabama died on Monday, July 13, 2020 in Portland, OR, at the age of 95. Her parents were William H. Bell and Rose Marie Richter; she had one sister, Marjorie Bell Rodriguez, all who have preceded her in death. She grew up and finished high school in San Jose, CA. She married (Jewell) Tom Riddle in 1945 (died 1963) and Jack Morris, Fortuna, CA in 1966 (died 1983) and Robert Tomlin, McKinleyville, CA (died 1995).
Mary worked most of her life in banking, first at Wells Fargo in San Francisco, CA and then approximately 25 years from teller to loan officer at Bank of America, branches in Fortuna, CA and Arcata, CA. She retired in 1986 and moved to Sandy, OR, outside Portland, OR.
In retirement, Mary pursued her hobbies: writing, flower arranging, watercolor painting, amateur acting, bridge, and water aerobics. She was active in the Mt. Hood Community College Senior Writing class and won their top award for prose. She was also active in the Variety Players, an amateur acting group at Summerplace, a senior community, in Portland, OR where she lived for 20 years prior to moving to Russellville in Portland, another senior community. At Russellville, Mary played bridge, wrote for their newsletter, and played trivia.
Mary is survived by her children, Steven G. Riddle (Yvonne) of Spokane, WA and Kristine E. Riddle Lumsden (Steve) of Boring, OR and one niece Gal (Rodriguez) Rios of San Jose, CA. Her grandchildren are Jessica (House) Lewis, Tabitha (House) Hamilton, Ross Lumsden and Stephanie (Lumsden) Gudekunst. Great-grandchildren are: Gage Lewis, Caleb Lewis, Logan Lewis, Cory Lewis, Hunter Hamilton, Kailie (Hamilton) Pawluk, Madelyn Lumsden, Ezra Lumsden, Elise Lumsden, Peter T. Gudekunst IV, and Elka Gudekunst.
A memorial service in her honor will be held at Bateman-Carroll Funeral home, Gresham, OR on Monday, July 20, 2020 at 2 p.m.
