Lorraine E. Mackey

Lorraine E. Mackey, Troutdale resident, passed away October 28, 2013 in Portland. She was born in Portland, OR to parents Meston and Bertha Dygert on June 22, 1927. Lorraine graduated from Gresham High School. She married her high school sweet-heart Walter Mackey in 1948. They were married 54 years and shared many wonderful years travelling together until his passing in 2003. Lorraine worked both in and out of her home, raising her family and working as the Principal’s Secretary for 17 years at David Douglas School District. She listed her favorite memory as the day Walter proposed to her. Their first date was a Sadie Hawkins Dance at Gresham High School that was a set up from a couple of her close friends. She remained close to many of those high school friends and remained an active member of the Gopher group. Her earliest memories were of living in a logging camp in Cochran.OR until about age 4. A special memory of Powelhurst Grade School was heating her lunch on the woodstove. A special memory was when her home was upgraded by adding running water and indoor toilet while she was in High School.

Lorraine was kind, and patient, always forgiving and supportive. She was very involved in all of her family’s activities, and loved spending time with others. She was a social person, and adventurous. Lorraine enjoyed white water rafting, gardening and always wanted to go skydiving one day. More than anything, Lorraine gave of herself to those around her, family and friends alike.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband and son Vaden. She is survived by her sons Steven (Nancy) and Glen (Sally) Mackey; sister Joan Gordon (Bob); grand-children Matthew, Melissa, Martha, Shannon, Brendan; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday November 9, 2013 at1:00pm at Smith Memorial Presbyterian Church in Fairview, OR. Bateman Carroll Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. The family requests that contributions in Lorraine’s memory be made to the Smith Memorial Presbyterian Church Organ Fund, PO Box 69 Fairview, OR 97024-0069.
