Born in Gray's Harbor, Washington, Judy's father Hardy Schoebel Sr. and step-mother Frances
Schoebel (Glasser) moved Judy and her 9 brothers and sisters to Portland when Judy was very young.
Judy graduated from Portland Girls Polytechnic High School in 1966.
After school and on weekends, Judy worked at a toy store in the Lloyd Center.
She later worked in the daycare at Timber Lanes bowling alley where she met John Ryan, who also
worked at the bowling alley.
Judy and John were married for more than 52 years and raised two sons in East Multnomah County.
Judy was an actively involved and very supportive mom, engaged in her sons activities as a Cub Scout
Den Mother, Little League Team Mom and all around cheerleader and supporter.
Once her boys reached high school age, Judy returned to work and was able to combine her love of
reading with her warm and friendly people skills to work at a used book store in southeast Portland.
Later she moved on to work at a couple of hardware stores in Gresham.
Judy then obtained a Pharmacy Technician License and eventually retired as a Pharmacy Tech.
Judy loved the sunshine.
In her youth she and her brothers were avid water skiers on the Willamette River.
For many years the Ryan's kept a boat moored on the Columbia River, where Judy would pass on her
love of the river to the rest of her family.
Judy was happy to spend hours reading a book and working on her tan.
Although not a fan of flying, Judy enjoyed trips to Arizona and Hawaii, where setting aside time for
reading a book poolside or beachfront were mandatory.
Judy was a loving and devoted wife, mom, and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, John Ryan, sons John and Steve, daughter-in-law Silvana, and granddaughter Abigail.
Judy will be greatly missed by her loving family and the friends she made throughout the years.
