Joan was born on October 27, 1935 in New York City, New York and was the daughter of Albert and Louise (Richards) Keller. She spent her younger years growing up in Ohio and at age 13 moved with her family to Albuquerque, New Mexico where she graduated from Hyland High School. On August 7, 1953, she married Harry R. Caldwell. They were later divorced but remained close friends.
In 1980, she moved to Clackamas, Oregon and in 1982 to Eugene. She later relocated to East County. Joan was very talented. She was a successful Country Gospel song writer as well as a poet. She wrote every day of her life, sharing her gift with the world.
She enjoyed making jewelry, cooking, sewing and decorating. Her passion was writing.
Joan was a beautiful person. She was loyal and protective of her family and friends and was truly the force that kept her family close. She faced every challenge with grace and did so with a smile. She was loved and adored by so many and will be dearly missed.
Joan is survived by her children, Christopher L. Caldwell of Troutdale, Teresa M. Stroud of Troutdale, Brent L. Caldwell of Albuquerque and Dawn C. (Chris) Valencia of Albuquerque, sister, Margaret Robran of Boise , Gail Keller of Boise and Diana Miller of Temple, Texas and brother, David (Evi) Keller of Boise along with 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Her parents, brothers, Richard, Anthony and Ronald and sister-in-law Beck Caldwell all preceded her in death.
A Celebration of Joan’s life will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 11:00 am at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham. Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 10th from 10 am – 5 pm. Interment will be at Douglass Cemetery. Contributions may be made in memory of Joan to the Children’s Cancer Association Music RX Program.
