Janet Gail Sheets, age 86, passed away on December 8th, 2019 in Portland, Oregon. She was born on June 11th, 1933 in Portland where she lived most of her life until her passing.
Janet was wed to Gail Eugene Sheets on February, 11th, 1955 and remained so until his death in 2000.
A graduate of Washington High School, Janet was active in her early life with Job’s Daughters where she ultimately was crowned Bethel Queen. Janet had an unwavering faith in God and was a devout Lutheran who attended Bethlehem Lutheran Church for most of her life. At Bethlehem she was active on church council and on the Alter Guild. As a young adult she worked at Dickson Drug Store in the Montavilla neighborhood. She left to start a family and eventually would return to work at Dickson’s in the 1970’s. She continued to work there until the store’s closing in 2004. Janet was an avid baseball fan, especially favoring the Atlanta Braves. She travelled several times over the years with Gene to watch them play.
Janet was predeceased by her husband Gene of 45 years, her parent’s Sighild and George Wilcox, and her brother Allen Wilcox. She is survived by sons Gary D. Sheets and his wife Debra, Michael G. Sheets, Patrick A. Sheets and his wife Mary. She had four grandsons, one granddaughter, two great-grandchildren, two step grandchildren and one step great-grandchild.
A private graveside service will be performed at Skyline Cemetery on Wednesday, December 18th. It will be followed with a memorial service at 1pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, 507 W. Powell Boulevard, Gresham, OR 97030. All are welcome to come share their memories of Janet.
