Grace “Gracie” Ruby Dellett, age 90, of Troutdale, Oregon passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 31, 2022. Gracie was born July 23, 1932, in Bagley, Minnesota.
Gracie was the daughter of Eri and Ethel Ingalls, born into a family that became 13 strong. Gracie had three brothers and seven sisters. The family ended up in John Day, Oregon, where Gracie graduated from Grant Union High School in 1949. In high school, Gracie met her first husband, Don Dunn, and had two children, Donna and Don, Jr. Gracie and Don moved to Portland, Oregon with their two young children, where she started work right away with Jantzen. Gracie was an excellent seamstress and worked for Jantzen for many years. There she met her best friend, Lorry Mays, who was always thought of as the 14th member of the Ingalls family.
Life has a way of changing and that was no exception for Gracie. In 1972, being newly single, Gracie met Ray Dellett in Kaneohe, Hawaii, as part of a double date set up by her sister, Betty. Ray was stationed at Kaneohe Marine Corps Base and after a long-distance relationship, he followed Gracie to Oregon and she married him in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1974. At this time, Gracie was working for the United States Post Office. She retired from the United States Post Office after a full career.
Gracie was preceded in death by her parents, Eri Richard Ingalls and Ethel Josephine Randall; five of her sisters, Rachel “Dade” Pierce, Jeannette “Peakie” Randall, Elizabeth “Betty” Browning, Rose Davidson, and Alice Smith; two of her brothers, Richard “Dick” Ingalls and Eri “Knute” Ingalls; her husband, Ray Dellett, and, her son, Donald Dunn, Jr. She is survived by one of her brothers, Aaron Ingalls; two of her sisters, Ione Hovde and Ethel “Beanie” Hobgood; and, by her daughter, Donna Mapes. Gracie also has six granddaughters, 17 great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter.
Gracie enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, going to church and bible study, traveling, gardening, sewing, crafting, watching Jeopardy every night, cheering on her favorite sports teams, and was also part of a Postal Service bowling league for many years. She was very proud of her family, friends and her career with the Postal Service. She would always tell people how much she loved them, to the moon and back!
Gracie’s service will be held on September 17th at 1:00 p.m. at Greater Portland Baptist Church, 17800 SE Main Street, Portland, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Greater Portland Baptist Church Missionary Program.
