James Robert Fields, II was born April 26, 1945 in Fort Worth, Texas and grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas. James’ Savior called him to his eternal home on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at age 77. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Robert (Buddy) and Joanna Fields.
James received Christ as his Savior at age 17 and soon knew God was calling him into the ministry. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Bible from Southwestern Assemblies of God University in 1967.
James met and fell in love with Delores Skaggs at college. He loved to say, “I took her to her first football game.” Delores said she had made her mind up to marry a man who was deeply dedicated to the Lord. They were married on May 20, 1967, and spent 55 years together as pastors, missionaries, and evangelists.
James was ordained by the General Council of Assemblies of God in 1971. He and Delores pastored churches in Clifton, Raymondville and Kingsville, Texas from 1968-1986. They served five years as missionaries, ministering in the Republic of Singapore and Tokyo, Japan.
In 1992 James planted Trinity Worship Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. He and Delores pastored there for over five years before founding Comfort and Encouragement Ministries, Inc. in 1997.
With Comfort and Encouragement Ministries, James blessed and serveple globally through seminars and revivals, his books, radio programs, His Healing Presence newsletter, coaching pastors, missionary support, and one on one encouragement from God’s Word. His extensive online ministry from his website, www.comfortencouragement.org continues today and includes a weekly Uplifting Word, Scripture Sheets, blogs and audio sermons.
James was born with scarred macula in both eyes. God used this visual handicap to develop a sweet tenderness, empathy, and perseverance in James. These qualities overflowed in a lifetime of sermons and written material reflecting the wonderful unconditional love of God and always encouraged others to trust God whether times were pleasant or unpleasant.
Scuba diving and underwater photography became two of James’s favorite hobbies. He could see better under the water than above and greatly enjoyed photographing God’s under water creations. Delores and James, also, loved going on Caribbean cruises to rest after lengthy periods of ministry.
James is survived by his loving wife, Delores Fields; brother, Will Fields; sister, Becky (John) McGinnis and numerous extended family members and countless worldwide friends.
