She was the loving wife of 55 years of John J. Ferguson, Esq. and the devoted mother of four wonderful children, John J Ferguson III of New York City, Kerry Ferguson Walker (Jon) of Rye, NY, Mary Ferguson Parrinelli (Robert) of Rye, NY and Monica Byrne Ferguson of Greenwich, CT and eight special grandchildren whom she adored - William Byrne Walker, Alexandra DeLorme Walker, Madeline Monica Walker, Olivia Charlotte Walker, Charlotte Grace Parrinelli, Robert Thomas Parrinelli, John "Jack" Ferguson Parrinelli, and Andrew Burke Parrinelli. She was also survived by her sister Marianne Irwin (William) of Larchmont, NY, a brother Peter C. Schaumber (Kathy), Esq. of Washington, D.C., and Sister Mary Nika of Alma, Michigan. A brother; Gerard R. Schaumber predeceased her.
Karen was a graduate of the Ursuline School in New Rochelle, NY and Newton College of the Sacred Heart in Newton, Massachusetts.
Prior to her marriage, she worked in Rome, Italy for Bishop Fulton I. Sheehan. Upon returning to New York, she taught at St. David's School in Manhattan. After her marriage, she became a real estate broker in Greenwich, CT and had a most successful and rewarding career. Long after her career quieted, she delighted in following the local market news.
Karen's preternatural curiosity informed a lifelong love of learning that carried throughout her blessed life. She was a real estate maven, stock market enthusiast, and a political junkie. She embraced healthy, physical activity and was an early and competitive runner, resistance trainer, and golfer. She adored playing golf, but particularly adored the time it allotted her with her husband and children. The hobby took them around the world; but her favorite place was always home.
Karen was above all things, a devout and contemplative Catholic. She was the bedrock of her family and her faith lives on thought all of them, and all who knew her.
A wake will be held at Gallagher Funeral Home in Greenwich, CT on Tuesday from 5-8pm followed by a funeral mass on Wednesday at 10am at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Greenwich, CT.
