I am the oldest of five sons born to William Minor Page, Sr. and Vera Estelle Eubanks Page. We were fortunate to have two loving, caring, and sacrificial parents like mother and dad. They worked very hard to provide a good livelihood for the family. Our names were William Minor Page, Jr., Walter Nelson Page, Deceased Wilbur Randolph Page, Oren Ed Page, and Otis Ted Page.
Hilda and I have been married for 76 years. We have two wonderful, special sons. Brent Sanders page is our oldest son. He lives in Mauldin, SC. He has a daughter, Alison Shelby Page, who graduated from John Brown University in Siloam Spring, Arkansas. He also has a son, Corey Mullins Page.
Our other son, William Manuel Page and his wife Dottie, have a son named Michael Huff and a daughter named Kim Huff. Their father was Dottie’s first husband. William and his family lived in Atlanta, Georgia.
We five Page boys grew up on a farm located on Bryant Road in Spartanburg County. Dad did not own that farm, but later purchased the farm located directly across from it. All of us knew how to hoe, plow, and pick cotton. We also knew how to care for mules and how to milk cows. Further, we knew how to grow, cultivate, and harvest corn, cane, wheat, oats, cantaloupes, and watermelons.
We are very familiar with dirt country roads, no inside plumbing, no inside water. We had a dug well from which we secured water by using a chain and bucket. There was no electricity in our home until sometime during the 1930s. Some of those years were rather tough but we had plenty of food to eat.
During those boyhood years, we knew how great and enjoyable it was to visit our grandparents, Jesse Ernest and Mildred Estelle Eubanks, who lived in Limestone Mill Village in Gaffney. We loved them very much. Not only did we love them, but we loved and appreciated their daughters and sons who were our aunts and uncles. Yes, it was great to see and be with them and eat some of grandmother’s delicious and home cooked meals.
It was and is a great life!
The Lord called me into a full time Christian ministry in 1951. Having been only to Business College, I had to think about a college and seminary education. Since serving 17 months in the Navy during WWII, I was able to attend and graduate from Wofford College, Spartanburg, SC under the GI Bill. I also graduated from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Wake Forest, NC in 1956. It has been my pleasure to serve two full-time Baptist churches, 32 ½ years at Friendship Baptist Church, Pauline, SC, and 29 years at First Baptist Church, Mauldin, SC. I have also served several churches in the interim pastor since retiring from the full-time pastorate in 1986.
Bill was a member of Mauldin First Baptist Church for many years, where he pastored for 29 years. He was a United States Navy Veteran.
He is survived by friends and family that love him very much, two sons: William M. Page (Dorothy) of Marietta, GA and Brent Page of Mauldin, SC; four grandchildren: Alison Wilson, Corey Page, Michael Huff and Kimberly; one great-grandchild: Eleanor Wilson.
Funeral service will be held Monday, December 19, 2016 at Mauldin First Baptist Church, 150 S. Main St, Mauldin, SC 29662 at 2:00 pm. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm prior to service at the church.
