Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Grover Cleveland and Lula Poole Batson. He was a proud graduate of Parker High School Class of 1945, a U.S. Army World War II Veteran and was an HVAC professional. He was a member of Morgan Memorial Baptist Church in Greenville and attended Central Church of Christ in Spartanburg.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Batson is survived by a son, Robert Batson and wife Kathleen; four grandchildren, Angel DeMore and husband Scott, Kim Chasteen and husband Jonathan, Kaitlyn Shaw and husband Joshua, and Matthew Beringer; and five great grandchildren, Ella Chasteen, Sophie Chasteen, Evie Chasteen, Jake DeMore, and McKenzie Shaw. He was predeceased by a wife, Mildred Clardy Batson; two daughters, Donitta Batson and Deborah Batson Jolly; a sister, Mary B. Smith; and four brothers, Fields Batson, Melvin Batson, Cleveland Batson, and Thomas Batson.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 4:00 PM at the Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM at Woodlawn Funeral Home prior to the service. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Palmetto Bible Camp, 140 Falls Creek Road, Marietta, SC 29661.
