Virginia (Jean) Handley, age 96, of Simpsonville, South Carolina passed away on Monday, April 25, 2022. Virginia was born December 4, 1925 in Pringle, PA, she was the last of eight children of Felix and Felixa Yaglowski. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, James Handley whom she was married to for 55-years until his death in 2000. Jean is survived by her
daughters, Mary Ellen Handley, Sally Handley, Jane Noble and her husband John Noble.
A graduate of Pringle High School, Jean married her high school sweetheart and lived in Pringle until 1965 when they re-located to Garfield, NJ. In 1981, they again re-located to Greenville, SC where Jean was a member of the Come-Latelies, the Prince of Peace Altar and Rosary Society and the JP
Stevens Supper Club.
The quintessential homemaker, Jean was a great cook and baker. She grew and canned her own vegetables. Her beautiful flower beds and gardens were further evidence of her green thumb. A skilled seamstress, Jean excelled in many forms of needle work, including crocheting, latchhook, embroidery and needlepoint. She also had a talent for oil painting, both still-life and landscapes. She enjoyed decorating her home and was even gifted at re-finishing wood furniture. Most of all, she loved to entertain her family and friends.
A fierce competitor, Jean loved to play cards, especially Pinochle and Michigan Rummy, and also enjoyed word games, especially Scrabble. An avid reader, she enjoyed books, and in keeping with the times, became proficient in using a Kindle in her nineties. She totally enjoyed baseball and was
delighted to see her beloved Atlanta Braves win the World Series last year. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
A funeral mass for Virginia will be held Friday, April 29, 2022 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, 2252 Woodruff Rd, Simpsonville, SC 29681. Following the funeral mass will be a committal service at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC 29609.
