Toni Stroud Faulconer, 73, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and loyal friend passed away peacefully on September 14, 2015.
Born in Greenville on August 8, 1942, Mrs. Faulconer was the daughter of the late Dorothy Harris Stroud and William Hugh Stroud, Sr.
A 1960 graduate of Greenville High School, she went on to complete her undergraduate degree and her Master of Arts in Education from Furman University.
She was happily married to her high school sweetheart, Michael Newman Faulconer, for 31 years.
Always smiling, she was known for her positive attitude and brought joy to all who knew her. Mrs. Faulconer was a woman of grace, courage, patience and strength and will be missed by all.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Stacey Maxwell Foster and her husband Brian John Foster of Cleveland, OH; Dorothy "Dottie" Maxwell Hollis and her husband Dr. L. Breeden Hollis, Jr. of Greenville, SC; Carey Maxwell Clark and her husband Gregory Cannon Clark of Lexington, SC; and stepdaughter Kristen Faulconer Welborn and her husband William David Welborn of Spartanburg, SC.
Affectionately known as "Mimi," she is survived by eight grandchildren, Catherine and Camille Hollis; Eleanor, Harris and Thomas Clark; and Matthew, David and Katherine Marie Welborn.
She is also survived by one brother, Dr. William Hugh Stroud, Jr. and his wife Martha Rohrer Stroud of Mount Pleasant, SC and their children William, Robert, and John. Additionally, she is survived by a sister-in-law Katherine "Kitty" Hawpe and her husband Thomas Garland Hawpe of Simpsonville, SC.
Mrs. Faulconer was blessed to have many dear friends, especially her beloved Bridge Club of over 35 years. Starting her career as an elementary school teacher, she transitioned to stay-at-home mom, and then returned to the classroom, where she cared deeply for each child. Mrs. Faulconer was a passionate educator and a tireless advocate for students and their families. She truly believed education was a calling and dedicated 28 years to serving Greenville County schools. She spent the latter part of her career in administration, serving as Assistant Principal of Grove Elementary and Tanglewood Middle and as Principal of Baker's Chapel Elementary and East North Street Academy. Mrs. Faulconer was a member of St. Giles Presbyterian Church. An inspiration to others, she courageously battled multiple myeloma for six years under the loving care of her devoted husband. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Suzanne Fanning, Oncologist, and the staff of the GHS Cancer Institute for their dedicated care and treatment.
The family would also like to thank the staff of the McCall Hospice House, particularly Suzy Cothran, Connie Patterson and Veta Pedro for their compassionate care in her final days.
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Faulconer will be held Thursday, September 17th at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Mackey Mortuary with the Reverend Matt Matthews officiating.
Visitation will immediately follow the service at Mackey Mortuary.
