Stephen Padgett (“Padge”) Arrington, 95, died on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at National Health Care in Mauldin, South Carolina after months of declining health. Born on July 4, 1926 in Raleigh, North Carolina, Padge (also known as “Jim”) was the son of the late Bradford Merry Arrington and Vivian Padgett Arrington. He graduated from Greenville Senior High School and Furman University. He served in the Army, stationed in Alaska, from 1953 to 1955. He retired as a social worker from Midlands Center in Columbia, SC, and was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, also in Columbia.
In addition to his parents, Padge was predeceased by his brother, Bradford Merry Arrington, and two sisters, Celeste Arrington Clyborne and Martha Arrington Wickliffe. He is survived by a brother-in-law, Dick Wickliffe, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Padge was known for his love for family and his interest in family history. He was meticulous about etiquette, had a wonderful sense of humor, enjoyed classical music, was an avid reader, volunteered at Trinity Cathedral and at Harvest Hope Food Bank, received great joy from helping people in need, and loved animals. He also had a special interest in the British royal line, especially the Queen of England, with whom he corresponded on occasion.

A memorial service will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville, SC on Saturday, January 29 at 1 pm.
