She was the life of every gathering, immediately loved by everyone who met her. Her family absolutely adored her and she gave back ten fold. Born and raised in the upstate, she was a lifelong Greenville resident. She graduated from Greenville High School and married WP “Rudy” Rudisill at age 22. They were married for 52 years, raising their children Jennie, Mark, and Bill, and remained in the same home for 63 years.
Shirley was the youngest of six children. They were an extremely close family with Buddy (Dottie),Lunette (Dick), Ruth (Brad) Jack (Leigh) and Barbara (Bruce) creating a legacy of children and traditions. She was the last of her generation in the family, but the next generation remains close and will continue the events and traditions that have been passed down. Until the end, she also continued to gather with her Greenville High School friend group and loved them dearly.
In her earlier years, she and her sister Barbara spent countless hours in the box office of the Greenville Memorial Auditorium working and seeing the many incredible shows and musical acts that came to Greenville. Later, Shirley was instrumental in running the family business, Brick and Tile company, for many years. She spent 22 years serving as the Director of the Greenville Woman’s Club where she shared her vibrance and abilities with the members, wedding parties, and so many in the community through special events. She truly touched them all! Throughout the years, many family events were also held at the Woman’s Club, establishing another “home” to gather and celebrate.
Shirley has now gone to her eternal home, where she is surrounded by those who have gone before her: Rudy, her son Mark, and all her precious siblings and family. Saying she will be missed is a vast understatement, but heaven is a remarkable place where celebrations never end and all things are made new.
She is survived by her daughter, Jennie Morgan (Bob), grandchildren, Lauren Winchester (Chris), Robert Morgan (Molly), Shirley Ann Brown (Chris) & great grandchildren Julia and Ilaria. Also, her son Bill Rudisill (Penny), Grandchildren Bo Rudisill, Wendy Trammell (Charlie), John Holtzclaw (Melissa), Michael Holtzclaw (Leslie) and great grandchildren, Will, Jake, Emily, Marlee, Tripp, Reid, & Natalie and her 10th great grandchild due in December.
A memorial service for Shirley will be held Monday, September 26, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Fourth Presbyterian Church, 703 East Washington St, Greenville, SC 29601. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, https://www.stjude.org/
